Log home repair/restoration in Michigan

MICHIGAN   Having worked on many log homes in the state of Michigan, we have seen many different scenarios.   The condition of log homes in this state share much in common with the rest of the Midwest.  Temperature fluctuations and moisture are some of the primary concerns, along with snow load on the roof system.  Most of the older log homes in the central part of the state, from Grayling to Alpena, still have mortar chinking.  Although it was very common to use back in the day, it is very inefficient.  It typically separates from the logs, allowing water to get in behind and cause severe log rot over time.  We can remove it if needed, and apply latex chink to stop heat loss, help cooling in the summer, and seal it from water infiltration.
