what is the dry grainy stuff on window sill mid-winter from interior window frame? House 40 years old...are insects like bees there? We found and eradicated bees once from that site.

We want to finish our interior log walls and want then to be natural (not yellow). They are white pine. They are new. What would you recommend. Want a low lustre/matte finish. Thank you for any help.

Our log cabin has square hewn logs (not D-style though). There is chinking on the exterior walls but the interiors do not currently have chinking. We'd like to add chinking. Are backer strips needed? If so, where do we place ...
