I have a 60s log home, appears it was coated with cresote, looks dark and ugly, want to bring back a natural wood color. Was thinking of blasting, removing old mortar chinking, sanding, new synthetic chinking, and coating. What methods and materials do you recommend?

You will want to media blast (corn cob or glass), Osborne brush, borate treat, Stain with LifeLine and Advanced Topcoat, then chink using Grip Strip backer with Perma Chink.  Be sure to use a respirator when removing the creosote.
