I just bought a log home that has already been painted. How should I continue maintaining the exterior?
Ideally you should have the paint stripped and have a good quality latex stain applied. Either transparent or solid. True paint should never be used on log homes since it is not a breathable surface like the latex stain. Paint traps moisture in the logs and can cause surface rot over time as the paint deteriorates. If you cannot afford to strip right now then be sure to keep paint in good condition and not allow to dry and crack letting water in. Strip as soon as possible for best log health.
