QUESTION:  We have a 15 year old Douglas Fir log home. Some of the logs have cracked from drying out and I am wondering if I should fill these cracks? And if so then what do I fill them with. Cindy

ANSWER:  If they are on the interior no problem.  If they are on the exterior you should avoid filling them unless they are running into a window or door jamb and allowing water to get in behind.  If you do fill any checks be sure to inspect 2 or 3 times a year for failure or it will cause log rot.  Best to leave them open as this is the logs way to stay dry.  I would use Grip Strip backer where needed and then apply Sashco Conceal caulk.
