We have a log cabin from the 30's that we are restoring. There is horse hair between most of the logs but in some areas it is now missing. We are planning on chinking. Do we need to remove all horse hair or can we chink over it and leave it there as backing underneath?

If you are going to install new latex chinking I would recommend removing it first.  Use Grip Strip backer and ether Perma-Chink or Sashco Log Jamb.  Call 800-564-2987 to purchase.
