Question:  It has been several years since we stained the house and now my husband or myself don't know if we used an oil base or water base stain. Does it make a difference now which one we use?

Answer:  It really doesn't matter if it has been more then 7 or 8 years.  It will need to be stripped.  The rule is you can apply latex over oil, but never oil over latex.
