QUESTION: My husband and I purchased a log home in October 2019 it was Built-in 1896 and prior to being stained in October we're not sure when the last time it was stained it originally had a semi transparent stain on it but due to the lack of maintenance the seller chose to go with a solid stain was this a good choice and what are the pros and cons to using a solid stain on a log home

ANSWER: As long as it is a latex stain it will be fine.  If it is oil based then it can cause surface rot over time.  Latex stain is a breathable surface and can let moisture out.  Oil stains trap it in the wood.
