We have a 10 year old log home. From one of the peak logs at the highest point of our ceiling, small white 3-4mm long flakes are falling. They do not look like larvae (have not hatched). At the seam where the log and the wood ceiling meet, I can see a collection of this white matter. We knocked it down but the debris continues to fall. I cannot see any holes but the log is up 20 feet above me. Ideas? Located just outside of Ottawa, Ontario.

What you are describing is an egg pod from a tiny fly.  They are not harmful to my knowledge,  just make a mess on the logs.
